Pushing Boundaries

At the beginning of this year, I declared that 2012 would be all about pushing boundaries. Instead of coming up with resolutions I'd likely forget to keep, I felt a New Year's theme would help me stay focused in a different way - by helping me to examine my actions in relation to the big picture. Although the year isn't over quite yet, I cannot help but reflect on my journey over the last year. It has certainly been challenging, but in the face of all those challenges, I've found a lot of courage to push my work further and even explore media I never could have predicted. Pushing boundaries has materialized in many forms throughout the year - blogging has helped to develop the editor in me; this is so, so valuable in pretty much all aspects of life, I've realized. Learning to edit down is a crucial part of growing. It's difficult not having someone around to critique my work like I did when I was in school, so taking on the role of an editor has forced me to try and look at my work and ideas from other angles, and ultimately see if it fits with what I'm trying to accomplish overall. It's still something I'm getting used to, but it's exciting and refreshing, and I cannot wait to see where this will take me next.
